Matcha Ginseng Sparkler for Glowing Skin

Alice Sun•Jan 11, 2024
As the temps get warmer, I’m always craving something refreshing and sparkly ✨ Whipped up this functional drink the other day that’s packed with Chinese medicinal ingredients that work together to give your skin a glow from within. To make these ingredients more accessible, I packaged them into Immuni-Qi for you to try! You can get yours now at shopalicesun.com or by clicking here.
Here’s how it works:
- American ginseng: In Chinese medicine this is superfood that’s recommended for “cooling” the body, making it really soothing for inflamed and sensitive skin. This root is very potent, so always double check with your physician before taking!
- Goji berry: Packed with vitamins and antioxidants, this little berry is as powerful as it is pretty and tasty. In Chinese medicine, they’re considered a blood and Yin tonic, meaning that they can help to nourish and moisturize the skin.
- Red jujubes: These dried dates are a fantastic source of vitamin C, which is an essential ingredient your body needs for producing more collagen.
- Lotus seeds: Taken from the actual lotus flower, these seeds are used in Chinese medicine for their moisturizing abilities (great for those constantly dry chapped lips)

Instructions
Start by steaming your ginseng (1) for 45 mins, then dropping the whole root into a pot with 6 cups of boiling water
Once the ginseng is added, reduce the heat to medium and let it cook for 1 hour
To make the syrup for the sparkler, boil the lotus seeds (2–3) and red date flesh (1) in 1 cup of water for 30 mins
Afterwards, remove the lotus seeds and munch on them as a snack, mash the red date flesh, and let the water reduce until it’s syrupy (~10 mins on low heat)
To make the matcha (2 tsp), sift the powder through a strainer first, then add 1 tbsp of water at 175°F
Whisk in a Z motion until nice and frothy
To assemble, add a few ice cubes to a glass, then add enough sparkling water to fill it up 3/4 of the way
Add 2 tbsp of the ginseng tea you just made, a drizzle of the date syrup, top with the goji berries (2–3) and then the matcha you just made
Enjoy slowly 🥰
